I had read reviews that gave the mileage as 35-36 MPG. That did not sound very good compared to the HD Electraglide Ultra Classic which is rated at 54 MPG on the highway.

I just bought a 2005 Vulcan 1600 Classic w/2k miles on it, and I too noticed the very loud ticking sound, after I installed a windshield. The remedy was to replace the oil. The previous owner had not changed the oil since the last service @ 600 miles in 2005 .
